Description
Peer Health Exchange (PHE) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to give teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education. Since our founding in 2003, we have trained 2,500 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 25,000 public high school students in New York City, Boston, Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles. In the 2010-2011 year, we will write our next strategic plan, building off of our success to date and charting the course to increase our impact dramatically in the years ahead.

The primary responsibilities of the PHE National Chief of Staff will be to provide critical, high-level support to the CEO and National Management Team, serving as a trusted advisor and resource as well as the hub of communication for this team. The Chief of Staff reports to the Chief Executive Officer, works closely with the National Management Team and serves as a key interface to the National Board of Directors.

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities
The PHE Chief of Staff will:

  • Provide critical, high-level support to the CEO by:
    • Prioritizing correspondence to reflect organizational priorities
    • Responding to designated correspondence addressed to the CEO
    • Preparing briefings or materials in advance of important internal and external meetings
    • Assisting in board management, including preparation of board materials, correspondence, etc.
    • Attending internal or external meetings with (or on behalf of) CEO as needed
  • Manage Management Team communication by:
    • Scheduling, planning, and following up on internal meetings
    • Scheduling external meetings and ensuring follow-up on these meetings as needed
    • Preparing briefings or materials in advance of important internal and external meetings
  • Coordinate work on the strategic plan by:
    • Scheduling, planning, and following up on meetings involving key PHE stakeholders involved in the strategic plan, including consultants
    • Serving as a thought partner in developing the strategic plan
  • Develop and execute special projects as needed, particularly for the CEO and COO
  • Provide administrative support to the PHE program and other operations by:
    • Planning PHE travel
    • Copying and filing PHE materials
    • Purchasing, distributing, and maintaining PHE office supplies and equipment
    • Planning, purchasing, distributing, and maintaining materials for College Sites and Partner High Schools.

Qualifications
Peer Health Exchange is looking for someone who:

  • Has a Bachelor’s degree
  • Has excellent public speaking, writing, and editing skills
  • Has excellent organizational skills and is extremely detail-oriented
  • Has strong interpersonal skills
  • Has command of all Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • If efficient in managing diverse tasks, activities, and projects
  • Is flexible and willing to work in the early mornings and late evenings as needed
  • Is comfortable in a fast-paced, high energy, entrepreneurial environment and at ease in interacting with key PHE stakeholders.
