Selfsea, powered by Peer Health Exchange, is a web app co-designed with young people to provide youth with safe, inclusive, evidence-based, and identity-affirming health resources and information. It’s an online platform where young people can see themselves reflected through content that prioritizes their identities and experiences about mental health, sexual health, and beyond. Selfsea is built with young people, evidence-informed, and supported by a team of experts in the field.
We care deeply about ensuring that selfsea is a safe space for young people, and have worked with our youth advisors, mental health, and legal experts since the early days of building the app that young people envisioned to ensure that it meets the highest standards for safety.
As a not-for-profit organization, we are not legally required to comply with COPPA, but we choose to as best-practice. We also integrate child rights into our approach and products by aligning with Designing for Children’s Rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
selfsea is completely anonymous for our users.
Users in need of urgent support can easily connect to our partners at Crisis Text Line by clicking a link in the app
selfsea encourages users to select content warnings to control the content that they see when using selfsea
Selfsea is powered by Peer Health Exchange (PHE), a national non-profit organization that builds healthier communities with young people. since 2003, PHE has trained more than 15,000 college students to deliver health education workshops to over 188,000 high-school students in communities across the country. The PHE curriculum—informed by empirical evidence and rigorous evaluation—helps students develop the skills needed to make active, informed decisions about their health. These social-emotional skills are integral to accessing, acquiring, and applying academic content, and have a demonstrated impact on resilience, academic tenacity, and academic achievement at all age levels.
In addition to the critical partnership with our youth design partners, we have been supported by the Digital Wellness Advisory Board, a group of professionals who care deeply about our vision. Many thanks to the following advisors, who are key thought-partners in ensuring that our products are safe, effective, and positive experiences for young people.
Selfsea, powered by Peer Health Exchange, provides young folks with support, resources, and stories from young adults who’ve been there. We believe self-care is community care. Our platform was designed together with young people as a safe digital place where they can see themselves reflected within a supportive and inclusive community that prioritizes their identity and experiences about mental health, sexual health, and beyond.
